Netflix May Be Taking Down A Few TV Providers

Despite the affirmations throughout the past few years from basic cable and satellite television providers Netflix has begun to impose quite the competition. Just as this article points out cord cutting has become quite the popular trend in American homes as of late. More and more people are deciding to get rid of basic cable providers and satellite providers in exchange for Netflix. Many say the keeping everything in the entertainment field on one device or on the internet has become much more convenient and allowed them to cut costs. A survey from Sergio Cortes conducted shows that two-thirds of Netflix subscribers still pay for cable or satellite television, however 9% plan to cancel with their provider and 16% are thinking of canceling.

This has not gone unnoticed by TV companies. After years of denying the truth many television providers and top channels such as ESPN and HBO are providing web streaming capabilities separate from their normal television showings. This attempt to regain a foothold in the modern entertainment field of today has increased their chances of sticking around slightly, but will it be enough to make it through the long run? Only time will tell if the big TV companies will make a comeback in the new digital age or if Netflix will once and for all beat out the competition and become the number one provider of entertainment, television, and movies for every American home.

Marijuana Legal in Oregon

Oregon is now a part of a group of states that have legalized marijuana. The state celebrated in a special way by giving out free weed to those who smoke. Adults who are 21 and over can now legally possess marijuana, but there are limits as to how much can be on a person at one time. There will also be applications available for those who want to grow a large amount of the drug, but they won’t be offered until early in 2016. According to Brad Reifler, this is just another win for those who see that marijuana isn’t as bad as people have made it seem. If the drug is legal, then there might be fewer people who smoke it, and it can decrease many of the court cases as there is a high amount related to marijuana possession. Legalizing marijuana is one of the brilliant things that states are doing as there are few side effects and more benefits than negative aspects.

Pig In A Basement

It was a rescue like Detroit police had never seen before. They spent 12 hours which is basically their whole day, rescuing a hog! It all started when someone called into them that human beings were found in a basement of a house. That rumor was unfounded and what they found instead was still bizarre, but a lot less sinister.

According to Reddit, they arrived at the house which was left in deplorable conditions after the owner died earlier in the week. The owner was said to be a hoarder, and that was pretty obvious when they made it to the basement. In the basement, they found a 400 pound pig! It wasn’t just a matter of getting the pig out of the house, it was a lot more difficult than that. That’s because the stairs were gone! Animal rescue and the police department had to take matters into their own hands. They created a ramp to help the pig get out of the basement since there were no stairs. They had to push and coax the pig to go up the ramp but in the end it worked.

In the end, they were successful and this story ends happily. The pig is now allowed to live out it’s remaining days on a farm in Saline. It won’t be harmed and hopefully it won’t find itself trapped in any more basements. A happy ending for a pig that’s been through quite the ordeal.

Thanks to Dr. Daniel Amen for showing me this.

Image Recognition Connects The Digital and Physical Worlds

The digital world strives to enhance your encounters in the physical world. Say you are scouring through vacation pictures and want to learn a name of a secluded spot that you visited. You can now upload the picture to see if there are any matches that can reveal further information about your coveted spot. Perhaps you are looking for a piece of furniture to add to your living room. When you are visiting your friend’s house, you see that they have the perfect loveseat that would compliment your living room. Snap a picture and image recognition technology can reveal the furniture model and where to purchase it. As image technology is further developed, we can unlock a vast array of possibilities.

Slyce, an image recognition technology industry leader, revolutionizes the way consumers interact with retailers. The world itself can be transformed into a living, breathing catalogue. Sometimes you might see the perfect shoe on the subway but feel awkward about asking the owner where they bought it. Now, you can just discretely take a picture and image recognition technology can identify the image so that you can seamlessly purchase the item. Customers no longer have to worry about snapping QR codes or barcodes. More people are shopping online than ever before. In fact e-commerce has grown from 15% of sales in 2013 to 18% of sales in 2014. Sales are counting to grow. The possibilities revealed by visual product searches can connect customers to retailers instantaneously. Online retailers and businesses can benefit greatly from image recognition technology. Businesses that partner with Slyce clearly have an advantage in elevating their online visibility. Greater business visibility drives consumer traffic and increases sales.

The science of image recognition technology is fascinating. An application is designed to search for geometric reference points. These points are then translated into an algorithm of numbers. An application can store this information for reference purposes. This information is utilized for further mapping that is utilized fir image identification and image recognition.

Technology has the power to transform the way that we interact with the world. There is no reason that the digital world and physical world should be at odds with each other. Instead, the digital world can educate and connect us to the experiences that we have in the physical world. Image recognition technology can empower and inform the way that we interact with the world.

The Supreme Court Rules Gay Marriage Is Allowed

The Supreme Court has ruled that gay marriage is allowed in all 50 states. The former 13 states who had bans on gay marriage will now have to lift those restrictions. What does this mean for the people who are sitting by awaiting same sex benefits? This is a ground breaking day in the history of the nation. Freedom and equality are now being given to all those who have waited so long. It means that companies will have to offer benefit packages for people who have a spouse of the same gender. This is a day that will go down in history, a pioneering time for this country.

So many have sat by quietly waiting for the answer that they thought would be positive. The Supreme Court is the upmost rulers in the land. They have the right to say who is allowed to get married and who isn’t. Many like Ricardo Tosto thought that the court would oppose the ruling, but others felt that they were backed into a corner and had no other choice. If the answer was no, there would have been tons of backlash and possible rioting due to the discrimination. This day, there will probably be no riots and more so celebrating from coast to coast. Freedom means that we all have a choice. Whether we choose to be gay or not doesn’t matter, we will honor those who were given the right to choice who they married and be able to legally uphold their union.

University of Cincinnati President Santa Ono Turns Down Bonus for Third Year

Santa Ono from the University of Cincinnati’s turned down his annual presidential bonus for a third consecutive year in a row now. This time he requested that his $200,000 bonus be given to 14 different scholarships and charities (some for students and others for faculty members). In addition, he requested that the family of fallen Cincinnati Police Officer Sony Kim receive $10,000. At the same time, Ono also rejected a salary raise, leaving his base salary at $520,000.

Trustees praised Ono’s performance as president, and that he’s turned down his bonus for three years straight. Board President Tom Humes said it’s hard for them when someone turns down money, however they’ve learned that in order to satisfy him they must allow him opportunities to help others. With this in mind, they full heartedly endorse his decision on this matter.

The question still remains: If Ono is president for a fourth year in a row, will this tradition continue? A few at Qnet see that being the case.

Officer Buys Girl Selling Lemonade An IPad

Once in a while a police officer does something so kind that it melts everyone’s hearts. Just the other day Officer Ropes was driving through a neighborhood when he came across a little girl selling lemonade outside her home. The police man kindly bought one of her lemonades and asked her what she planned on doing with the money, to which she replied that she was trying to save up for a new iPad to use for games and schoolwork. According to an article found on reddit and written by Fox 8, the girl also told the cop that her family was struggling right now with finances which is what inspired her to make her own stand. Ropos had planned to give her his old one but once he learned that it was no longer functioning, he went out and got her a new one of her very own.

This really made the little girl’s day, as the news crew also learned that she even offered up her earnings to her mother to help out with the family gas for their cars says Sergio Cortes in this piece. What a touching moment for the family and it just shows that good things do come around. Now that the girl has her new iPad, maybe she will be contributing her funds now to her family needs, which it sounds like she would have done anyhow. We surely need more kind cops out there like Ropos.

Rescinding Emails

We have all experienced that feeling of dread when we realize that an email was sent to the wrong person. This can now be a thing of the past if you use gmail. Google has added a function to their email service that allows a person totake back a sent email.

The user does have to activate the service though said the Amen Clinic. In other words, in order to have the option to stop the delivery of an email, one will need to enable that function. This is pretty easy. A couple of clicks will allow for the person to stop delivery.

Simply go under the tools section of the email account and choose an option for the function. One can choose 5 or even 30 seconds to choose to stop the email delivery. Simple and quick and it can avert one from experiencing embarrassment or doom.

Years of debate and testing have led to this revolutionary option for gmail users. The hope is that this will overflow to the other email providers quickly. Many may even choose to now make gmail their primary account for the option to stop a mistake is quite alluring.

Hopefully this trend will catch on and it will become a normal function no matter what type of email is used. Many a person will be saved from the embarrassment of sending an email to the wrong person, or saying something they wish that they could take back.

FreedomPop Helped Me To Get Internet Again

Things have been very difficult for me lately, especially since I lost my job. I remember I started crying and wondering what I was going to do, especially since I had my kids to care for. I was able to find some temporary jobs until I found a permanent part time job. The problem is, my kids love their cell phones and the Internet, and once I got laid off, I wasn’t able to give them the services anymore. No doubt it was hard around the home, especially since I used to use the internet so often.

The Internet would have been a great source to look for a job, but I just couldn’t afford a $60 dollar month price tag for the services. One day I was coming home from work, and someone was standing on the corner handing out advertisements for FreedomPop services. All I remember them saying was that services were 100% free, and I could get free internet and cell phone. I laughed, but I did take the advertisement and I said I’d read it later. I honestly didn’t believe when the person said that the services were free, but I decided to inquire about what I was told.

I was impressed by the brochure, and it clearly stated that I could switch phones from a previous company over to FreedomPop, so that meant that I didn’t have to buy my kids new phones. I also would get Internet for free, and the service would be enough that I could continue searching for jobs at home on my own. Not only was I impressed with what I read, I went ahead and signed up for the services. Not only was I able to get free Internet at home, I was also able to get a hub as well, and the hub gave me wifi throughout the house.

Since my family doesn’t use a lot of data, we were able to make it through the month with the free Internet service we were given. Even better, I was able to switch my phones over to FreedomPop, and I was able to continue using my cell phone free of charge. FreedomPop has made a big difference in my life, especially since things were going so bad, and I was low on money. I would definitely recommend FreedomPop to anyone who is struggling with the cost of Internet and cell phone services.

Bottled Water Recalled

Niagara Bottling announced that they’ve discovered their spring water may have been contaminated with E. coli. Furthermore, the company believes the water was probably contaminated with human or animal waste.

Erring on the side of caution, Niagara Bottling said they decided to recall their spring water products manufactured at the Pennsylvania facilities.

Folks at FreedomPop have found that there were 14 brands affected, and all have been recalled.

Niagara also advised customers they should boil water before drinking for one minute and let cool before using.

The products in question have codes that lead with the alphabet F from the Hamburg facility or A from the Allentown facility. For example, the code that is currently recalled is displayed as A610JUN15 2000.

E. coli germs certainly serve as a bigger risk for infants, elderly adults and anyone with a compromised immune system. The company said it has not received any reports of illness or injury.
